August 19, 2013—After reviewing 240 composer applications from countries worldwide, Dr.Narong Prangcharoen is the second Asian since 1985 to become the Barlow Prize winner. The competition was an open division which poses numerous challenges to the applications; thus this award is regarded as a highly prestigious award. In addition to the 15,000 USD prize award, Dr. Prangcharoen is also given an opportunity to compose a major new work for the United State Marine Band. (One of the best wind ensemble in USA which is under the patronage of the President of the United States of America)
The award was given for his compositions, Illuminations and Anatman. The submission recording of "Illuminations" was performed by the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) under the patronage of the Royal Thai Government and a part of the College of Music, Mahidol University.
