Health inequity and AEC conference

Prof. Rajata Rajatanavin, M.D., the Mahidol University president, presented at the joint conference between the faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University and the faculty of Behavioral Sciences, De La Salle Univeristy, the Philippines. The "Health inequity and AEC conference" is part of being wisdom of the land and the effort to reduce health inequity between and within the countries. The conference's papers and discussion lead to the conclusion that ASEAN integration not only gives growth or prosperity but also inequity especially among the disadvantage groups such as cross-bordered workers. The ASEAN's free trade driving force for profit based on trade liberalization, the discriminated law, the inaccessible education system, and the medical hub health care tend to exploit the cross-bordered workers and to withhold the rights of the disadvantaged groups such as the elderly, the disables, the pregnant women, people with HIV and the ethnic minority groups. It is recommended that all of policy makers should aware of the social and health inequity impacts on the marginalized groups in all of their policies.
