Since 1-26 July 2013, the ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD), Mahidol University in cooperation with Thailand International Department Cooperation Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been conducting the International Short Course Training Program on Health Care System Strengthening in Room 2108, AIHD. The objectives of which are to introduce the basic concepts of health care system management based on primary health care, integrated health care system, health care system management, and system approach; review the important health care system management components, demonstrate how managerial activities may strengthen, or on the contrary, jeopardize the smooth functioning of the health care system on human resource management, health information, financial management, and community participation; to reinforce participants' capacity in planning and analyzing to strengthen their own health system, organization and management in order to make appropriate decisions; to introduce principles and methods for planning, monitoring and evaluating the health system research; and follow up.
The target group of this course is the executive staff working at the district or sub-national level with relevant experience in provincial and district health care system management. This course intends to be very participative on lectures and presentation of international exchange field experiences, conferences on relevant experiences in Thailand, field visits, group work, and integrated practical application, which is being supported by International and Thai experts inputs. Dr. Patrick Martiny, International Expert and Guest Lecturer from Belgium, headed the training with an active participation of Dr. Yongyuth Pongsupap and Dr. Supattra Srivanichakorn, National Guest Speakers, Dr. Sawitree Visanuyothin and Dr. Somchai Panumaswiwat, Field Lecturers, with some respectable lecturers of AIHD. Twenty-six creative individuals from diverse countries - Bhutan, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, the Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Swaziland, Tanzania, Thailand, and Timor Leste, including the 28th Master of Primary Health Care Management (MPHM) program for this academic year 2013-2014, are remarkably participating this groundbreaking event.
