Workshop "University Cooperation
for UMAP Joint Study Program & Research" |
| |
|
Mahidol
University hosted workshop, inviting
UMAP participating universities
to take part in Joint Program
/ Research Net for sustainable
development. Office of the International
Secretariat supports 8,000 US$.
On
Oct 11th, 2008 at Ramada Plaza
Menam Riverside Hotel, Mahidol
University in cooperation with
University Mobility in Asia and
the Pacific International Secretariat
(UMAP IS) and Commission on Higher
Education organized international
workshop, “University Cooperation
for UMAP Joint Study Program &
Research.” This workshop opened
the floor for universities in
the member countries to collaborate
and discuss about the detail of
Joint Program and/or Research
Net. UMAP IS is considering supporting
8,000 US$ to develop this program.
In achieving this support, the
program must lead to sustainable
development in various ways and
participated by at least three
universities/academic institutes
from three full member countries
in accordance with the decision
from UMAP Vice President Forum
Coordination Committee meeting
at University of Colima.
Since
March 2006, Thailand became the
Office of the International Secretariat
for a 5 years period. At present,
Dr. Sumate Yamnoon, Secretary-General
of Commission on Higher Education,
is the International Secretariat
of UMAP, which is an excellent
opportunity for Thailand to play
a role in international organization
like UMAP. This opportunity would
benefit academic institutions
and Thai students. The Commission
on Higher Education has laid out
the plans to promote international
education in Thailand as follows:
promote the opening of quality
international program by encouraging
foreign academic institutions
to manage the program; establish
the academic institutions in Thailand
to take the central role in exchange
of faculty, students, and staff;
support the academic institutions
to host international conference,
seminar, and training; and promote
Thailand to be the center of training
and research in trade and international
development in Asia Pacific. Currently,
there are more than 400 academic
institutions in Asian-Pacific
region from 20 countries in UMAP
(both full members and associate
members) of which all
public and private academic institutions
in Thailand are members of UMAP.
UMAP
aims to achieve enhanced international
understanding through increased
mobility of university students
and staff. To further promote
mobility, UMAP credit transfer
scheme (UCTS) was set up to ease
the transfer of credit for the
participating students. Not only
the students would be accepted
in the job market in the future,
the students also learn foreign
culture through this exchange
program.

Sakolsatayadorn, President, Prof.
Napatawn Banchuin, Vice President,
Assoc. Prof. Churnrurtai Kanchanachitra,

to discuss on continuation of
research collaboration between
the two institutes.
Mahidol

collaborated in academic and research
for over a decade. The initial
areas of cooperation include vaccine
development, viral diseases, and
polymer science. With many achievements,
a Memorandum of Understanding
between Mahidol University and
IRD was signed in April 2004 for
a duration of 5 years. Recently,
IRD in collaboration with the
Center of Excellence for Vectors
and Vector-borne Diseases have
established a research unit designated
“Multidisciplinary
Laboratory on Vector-borne and
Emerging Infectious Diseases”.
This will enhance academic mobility
between IRD scientists from France
and Mahidol University staff as
well as will foster new endeavours
that cut across traditional academic
boundaries.

Siriraj and
Japan Organized Medical Long-Distant Teleconference
Meeting |
| |
At the 12th floor of Her Majesty
Cardiac Center, Assoc. Prof. Rujaporn
Chanachai Ph.D., Head of the Division
of Nuclear Medicine, Department
of Radiology, Faculty
of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital,
Mahidol University stated that
the long-distant medical conference
was a result of setting up of
the PET-CT (Positron Emission
Tomography/Computed Tomography)
at the Siriraj Imaging Center
on March 5th, 2007.
PET-CT is used to diagnose various
types of cancer as well as brain
and cardiac muscle. Even though
the PET-CT is a high capacity
and effective instrument, it is
new, and there isn’t enough
medical specialists who can read
the result. The Faculty thus sees
the importance of hosting conference
inviting all related medical personnel
to gain more experience in reading
the result and usage of PET-CT.
The conference allowed the opportunity
to exchange and consult with the
experts in leading institute abroad.
The high-speed internet on the
campus was connected to the Faculty
of Medicine, Fukui University,
Japan. The conference attendants
in Japan include The Molecular
Imaging Division and Biomedical
Imaging Division, and the conference
was chaired by Prof. Yasuhisa
Fujibayashi, President of Japanese
Society for Molecular Imaging.
Furthermore, the Faculty
of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital,
Mahidol University invited other
medical specialists in the field
of nuclear medicine from other
medical institutes such as from
Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn
University, Faculty of Medicine,
Ramathibodi Hospital, and Chulabhorn
Cancer Centre, Chulabhorn Research
Institute to attend this conference.
The benefits from this conference,
not only to develop radiologists’
knowledge in nuclear medicine,
but also to exchange ideas with
experts abroad in diagnosis. The
conference would assist in increase
the accuracy of diagnosis performance,
and further lead to international
collaboration in medicine, which
will develop diagnosis, using
PET-CT technology as well as maximize
the benefit of the available information
technology at Faculty
of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital,
Mahidol University.
Further planning at the Faculty
of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital,
Mahidol University includes organizing
of meetings and other related
activities every 2 months. The
goal is to benefit the patient
who receives the treatment.
