        On December 15^th, 2009, Prof. Preecha Soontranan, Vice President for Student and Special Affairs and the representatives from the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Mahidol University International College, welcomed Dr. Yahya Bin Mat Arip, Senior Lecturer, School of Biological Science, from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia, and the delegations, in order to discuss on student’s development activities, services, and relevant issues. This occasion took place at the Meeting Room 530, 5^th Floor, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya

        Mahidol Unversity’s Research Center for Peace Building welcomed 17 international students from World Student Christian Federation in December 8, 2009 at 10.00 am. The students were from many countries all around the world such as Canada, the United States, Rwanda, Croatia, Korea, Jordan, Philippines, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ecuador, the United Kingdom, etc. They visited Mahidol Unversity’s Research Center for Peace Building to learn about the Center’s work and to their exchange ideas, especially on the issue of Thailand’s political conflict and the role of politicians on this conflict. They were also interested in the projects of the Center in the three border provinces and the training programs on peace and nonviolence.

        The Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit began since 1979 as a research collaboration between the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Oxford University (UK), and Wellcome Trust. The Unit organized its 30th Anniversary Celebration as well as inaugurated the grand opening of the Office and Laboratories located at the 8th Floor, 60th Anniversary Chalermprakiat Building, Faculty of Tropical Medicine. Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University chaired the opening ceremony along with the board of administration of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Oxford University, and Wellcome Trust. The event took place on Dec 8th, 2009, at the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University.

        On December 2^nd, 2009, Prof. Dr. Napathorn Baanchuan, Vice President of Mahidol University welcomed Assoc. Prof. Zhou Jia, Vice President of Kunming Medical University (KMU) and delegations, in the occasion of administrative group visiting programs for exchanging experiences in multi-campuses management, student management, joint-postgraduate program in Dentistry, continuing education, teacher training, and means to arrange the teachers and doctors training program next year.         On December 2^nd, 2009, Assoc. Prof. Sansanee Chaiyaroj, Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs, Mahidol University, presided over the 6th Seminar on Food- and Water-borne Parasitic Zoonoses (FBPZ6), organized by The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the SEAMEO TROPMED Network, the Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Association of Thailand, TROPMED Alumni Association, and the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre, Bangkok, Thailand.

        On December 1^st, 2009, Prof. Dr. Napathorn Baanchuan, Vice President of Mahidol University presided over the International Conference on "Psychosocial Factors at Work: Job Stress Prevention and Work Ability Promotion", hosted by Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University, Co-hosts by the World Health Organization Thai Office, Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Office of the National Research Council of Thailand, and the Occupational Health Nursing Association. This conference held on the Ambassador Hotel, Bangkok, during 30 November – 2 December 2009.

        On December 1^st, 2009, Clin.         On November 24^th, 2009, President Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn led a delegation of 51 Mahidol University executives and administrative staff to the Fifth QS Asia Pacific Professional Leaders in Education Conference and Exhibition (QS-APPLE) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Over 700 participants, including Presidents, Vice Presidents and Vice Rectors, from 44 countries are attending the Conference, which will close on November 26^th, 2009. Next year, Mahidol University will host the Sixth QS-APPLE Conference during November 17^th – 19^th, 2010 in Bangkok.

        On October 29^th, 2009, Mahidol University Research Center for Peace Building and the World Conference on Religions for Peace (WCRP/Religions for Peace) hosted the international conference on “The Role of Religious Leaders in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding”, welcoming Senior Sri Lankan and Thai Religious Leaders, involved delegations from Japan, Australia, USA, Europe, other religious leaders, and opened for everyone. The purpose of this public meeting is to brainstorm the practical path for Global Conflict Resolution, for actual world peace building, especially through Inter-Religious Councils (IRCs) of each country.         On October 20^th, 2009, according to one of the cooperative activities "Teachers' Training Program", from the Addendum of Agreement between Mahidol University and Kunming Medical University (KMU) since June 20th, 2009, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Graduate Studies, and Institute for Innovative Learning welcomed 30 lecturers from KMU in the occasion of visiting Mahidol University and training teaching skill for understanding the curriculum design, establishing methods for students’ learning evaluation, and developing skill for teaching medical courses in English. This occasion took place at the Office of the President, the garden "Sirirukachati", and the College of Music, Salaya Campus.

        On 13 October 2009, University of Louisiana at Monroe President James E. Cofer and Assoc. Prof. Wariya Chinwanno, Dean, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Mahidol University in Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities. The agreement was reached following consultations with Dr. Robert Hanser, head of ULM's Criminal Justice Department and Dr. Jeffrey Cass, dean of ULM College of Arts and Sciences, concerning the development of reciprocal programs to promote international exchange and cooperation between the two institutions.

      Prof. Y.S. Chang, the representative of the University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, gave a presentation at the Faculty of Medical Technology on the Scheme, which was established by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council to recruit and support high caliber students in pursuing their PhD studies in Hong Kong institutions. Mr. Joao Freitas de Camara, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Thailand, Francisco Goronimo, Vice President, Health, Education and Culture Commission of the National Parliament, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the delegates on the occasion of visiting Mahidol University to exchange their experience in Health, Education and Culture.

        The MUIC chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) has been engaged in several projects in Nakhom Pathom, Ayutthaya and Prathum Thani Provinces over the past year, all in an effort to create economic opportunities for others and raise their standard of living.

        The SIFE members recently participated in the 2009 SIFE Thailand National Exhibition on July 13-15 at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration at Chulalongkorn University. Representatives from 23 universities were required to submit a written annual report and deliver a 20-minute presentation on their projects in a competition that would decide the best SIFE chapter in Thailand.

        Chulalongkorn University won the competition and will represent Thailand at the World Cup in Berlin, Germany, in October. However, MUIC handily won second place, an impressive achievement inasmuch as this was only the second year that it had participated in the competition.

        The MUIC chapter also won awards for best performance in the preliminary, quarter and semi-final rounds as well as an award for financial literacy, which was presented by the Stock Exchange of Thailand. In addition, Ms. Saranya Laohavoravudhikul received a trophy and 5,000 Baht for best introductory speech and Dr. Chairawee Anamthawat was designated best faculty advisor; she will attend the international competition in Berlin as an observer.          On May 1^st, 2009, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University, welcomed Assoc. Professor Che Jian from Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, to attend the conference on, “Periorbital Acupuncture.” This conference was a collaborative effort between Mahidol University and Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Clinical treatment using acupuncture to the periorbital region also took place from May 11-29, 2009 at the Golden Jubilee Medical Center, Mahidol University.

On April 30^th, 2009, Clin.Prof.Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University welcomed Mr. Luvsandoo Dashpurev, Ambassador of Mongolia to Thailand and Mr.Siizkhu, Secondary Secretary to Ambassador of Mongolia to Thailand, on the occasion of discussing about the promotion and development of education exchange between the two countries. On Apr. 24^th, 2009, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University presented memorabilia pins and mortarboards (square academic cap) to graduating international students in the Master of Arts Programme in Health Social Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. On Apr. 9^th, 2009, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University presented the certificates to the graduating students in the closing ceremony of the Master of Primary Health Care Management Programme (MPHM) at Krasae Chanawongse Meeting Room, ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD). A total of 14 graduates from eight countries were awarded the certificates, and they are the 23rd batch of students to graduate from MPHM program from AIHD, Mahidol University.

On March 17^th, 2009, Prof. Chumpon Wilasrusmee, Assistant to the President for International Relations welcomed Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc, Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) on the occasion of discussing about the further develop cooperative linkages and explore the possibilities of cooperation between VNU and Mahidol University at the meeting room, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On March 16^th, 2009, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University, Prof. Pornchai Matangkasomput, former President of Mahidol University, and Prof. Dr. Setsuo Arikawa, President of Kyushu University, Japan welcomed Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of ASEAN, to deliver a keynote address in the opening ceremony of an international program, “ASEAN in Today’s World 2009.” This ceremony took place at Mahidol University International Collage (MUIC), Salaya Campus.

On March 12^th, 2009, Clin.Prof.Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, President of Mahidol University, welcomed Dr. Ingegerd palmer, President of Malardalen University, Sweden, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as well as discuss possible academic collaboration between the two universities. The event took place at the reception room, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya campus.

On March 12^th , 2009 Prof. Chumpon Wilasrusmee, Asssistant to the President for International Relations of Mahidol University (MU) welcomed the Delegation from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman on the occasion of discussing about the future cooperation and other relevant issues between MU and SQU at the meeting room, Office of the President, Salaya Campus.

On March 10^th , 2009, Assoc.Prof.Sansanee Chaiyaroj, Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs, and Prof.Chumpon Wilasrusmee, Assistant to the President for International Relations, Mahidol University, welcomed Prof.Richard Henry, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of New South Wales(NSWU), Australia on the occasion of discussing of the future collaboration between the two universities at Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On Feb 26^th, 2009, Assoc. Prof. Sansanee Chaiyaroj, Ph.D. Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs, and Prof. Chumpon Wilasrusmee, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Mahidol University, received faculties and students, from International University of Health and Welfare, Ohtawara City, Japan. The visitors observed as well as share their experience on maternal and child health care at the meeting room, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya campus.

On Feb 23^rd, 2009, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, President of Mahidol University, welcomed H.E. Lazaro HERRERA Martinez, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Bangkok, for sharing and discussing possible mutual collaboration between Mahidol University and university in Republic of Cuba. The meeting took place at VIP Reception Room, 5th Floor Office of the President, Salaya Campus.

On Thursday, February 19^th, 2009, Prof. Chumpon Wilasrusmee, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Mahidol University, welcomed H.E. Mr. Chalermpol Thanchitt, Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh and the delegates from Bangladesh on the occasion of visiting Mahidol University to exchange experience as well as explore mutual interests and possible academic collaboration between Bangladesh and Mahidol University.

On the 28^th of January 2009, Asst. Prof. Sunanta Vibuljan, Vice President for Education; Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies; and Prof. Maleeya Kruatrachue, Interim Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Mahidol University International College, welcomed and participated with media visit of journalists from South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, to Mahidol University during ‘The Wonders of Friendship-Thailand and the South Asian Countries” program, 25 – 31 January 2009.
