Mahidol student's achievement.

A student at Mahidol University College of Music won an international piano competition. Congratulations to Miss Han Nah Son, a graduate student of piano performance major at the College of Music, who just received the First Prize in the College Category of the 3rd ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 17-22, 2008. The photograph is Han Nah Son with Prof. Snezana Panovska, the Music Director of Persatuan Chopin Malaysia, the organizer of the competition.

Ekachai Jearakul wins several prizes in the international classical guitar competitions

Mr. Ekachai Jearakul, a 2nd year student at the College of Music, Mahidol University received several international prizes for his outstanding classical guitar performance. In 2006, he won 3rd prize in the International Guitar Competition in France (IIe de Ré). He was even more successful in 2007 when he was awarded 1st prize in the International Classical Guitar Competition in Russian Style (Youth competition) in Russia, 3rd prize at the Vissani International guitar competition in Greece, and 2nd prize at the Rosario International guitar competition in Ohio, USA.

Chanin Nantasenamat, a Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Medical Technology, won the NRCT Best Doctoral Dissertation Award (Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences) for his thesis on "Computer-Aided Molecular Design for Biological and Chemical Applications: Quantum Chemical and Machine Learning Approach".

Mr. Anirut Phanjobsingh, a 4th year student of Applied Arts (Ceramics), Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University who has hearing impairment, won the gold medal in the field of pottery from the Leisure and Living Skill Contests - 7th International Abilympics, which was held during November 15-17, 2007 at Shizuoka, Japan. The International Abilympics (IA) was initiated in 1981 to commemorate the “International Year of Disabled Persons”, with wide support from both non-governmental and governmental organizations, helping to reshape the view of societies on the abilities, potential, and skills of disabled people, thus resulting in greater employment opportunities and vocational stability.

(Ph.D. Program in Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering. Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics) wins Outstanding Thesis Award in Medical Science for her thesis entitled “Studies on Dengue Virus Binding Proteins”, with Prof. Duncan R. Smith as Major Advisor.

(Ph.D. Program in Microbiology, Faculty of Science) wins Highly Commended Thesis Award in Medical Science for her thesis entitled “Functional Analysis of a Penicillium Marneffei Gene Involved in Fungal Development” with Dr. Sansanee Chaiyaroj as Major Advisor.

(Ph.D. program in Mathematics, Faculty of Science) wins Highly Commended Thesis Award in Physical Science and Mathematics for her thesis entitled “Some Aspects of Ranked Set Sampling with Applications”, with Dr. Montip Tiensuwan as Major Advisor.

(Ph.D. Program in Demography, Institute of Population and Social Research) wins Highly Commended Thesis Award in Social Sciences for her thesis entitled “Causes of Death in Thailand: Patterns and Differences”, with Dr. Yothin Svangdee as Major Advisor.
