Was Awarded Maple Prize in the
2nd International Piano Concert
in Vancouver, Canada by People
With Disabilities
Ms.
Ubonwan Piakaew (N’Pang), a 3rd year undergarduate majoring in
piano at College of Music, Mahidol
University, competed in the 2nd
International Piano Concert in
Vancouver, Canada by People With
Disabilities on 30 Sept – 4 Oct
2009. N’Pang competed in Course
A, and she performed a version
of her arrangement of Canadian
folk song “Vive le Canadienne,”
which earned her the Maple Award
and 300US$ cash prize.
The
2nd International Piano
Concert in Vancouver by People
with Disabilities aimed to broaden
the public’s awareness of the
musical talents of disabled people
as well as recognize and celebrate
the vast creative possibilities
of people with disabilities. N’Pang,
a pianist with visual impairment,
was invited by The Institute of
Piano Teachers & People with
Disabilities to represent Thailand
to compete in this event. More
than 70 contestants from 15 countries
competed in this year’s event.
The contestants were placed into
a group of similar disabilities,
including mental retardation,
limb impairments, visual impairments,
hearing impairment and/or communication
impairment, developmental disabilities,
and plural disabilities.

Ekachai
Jearakul won the first prize
in The 4th Singapore International
Guitar Competition
Ekachai
Jearakul, a 3rd year student
of the College of Music, Mahidol
University won the first prize
in The 4th Singapore International
Guitar Competition that was held
in Singapore from 8-14 December
2008. At DBS Auditorium.
There
were 7 finalists in the final
round .The jury consisted of
Yuichi Imai(Japan),Dr.Robert
Liew(Singapore),Cristina Azuma(Brazil),Andrea
Dieci(Italy),Jeremy Jouve(France),Eric
Franceries(France),Bernard Maillot(France),Enriquez
Castillo(Cuba),Han Vo-ta(Vietnam)
The
Final results were as follows:
1st prize Ekachai Jearakul (Thailand)
2nd prize Francisco Arief Wuryananto (Indonesia)
3rd prize John Vincent Hardijanto (Indonesia)

Mr.Thanawat will represent Thailand in the Public Speech Competition
in the U.K. on May 6-9, 2008.

The
winner of the Sixth True
Visions-BBC World Future
Journalist Award 2007-2008
Ms. Sikharin Langkulsen,
an MUIC student in the Entertainment
Media Program, was given a once-in-a-lifetime
chance when she was named the
winner of the Sixth True Visions-BBC
World Future Journalist Award
2007-2008 . She beat candidates
from 20 other universities and
will attend a three-week intensive
training course at the BBC headquarters
in London this June. Organized
by True Visions, BBC World, and
the Council of Mass Communication,
Faculty Members of Thailand.

Ekachai
Jearakul wins several prizes
in the international classical
guitar competitions
Mr.
Ekachai Jearakul, a 2nd year
student at the College of Music,
Mahidol University received several
international prizes for his
outstanding classical guitar
performance. In 2006, he won
3rd prize in the International
Guitar Competition in France
(IIe de Ré). He was even
more successful in 2007 when
he was awarded 1st prize in the
International Classical Guitar
Competition in Russian Style
(Youth competition) in Russia,
3rd prize at the Vissani International
guitar competition in Greece,
and 2nd prize at the Rosario
International guitar competition
in Ohio, USA.

Team” Wins “The Best
Niche Technology Award”
in Taiwan
The
College of Management graduate
student “BioShield”
team won “The Best Niche
Technology Award” for their
business plan to produce and market
a ‘vaccine to prevent white
spot syndrome virus in shrimp’
at the Global TiC Talentrepreneur
Award & Forum 2007 held in
July 2007 in Taiwan. “BioShield”
was one of 21 teams from 9 countries
in the final round among over
800 teams worldwide participating
in this competition.

Design Competition
A Mahidol University International
College undergraduate student
team won second place in the ICT
Student Design Competition 2005
under the theme “Inclusive
Communities: A Society for All
Generations”, sponsored
by the International Council for
Caring Communities in cooperation
with the United Nations ICT Task
Force and Program on Ageing and
other partners. Their insights
were showcased at an annual international
conference under the general title
“Caring Communities for
the 21st Century: Imaging the
Possible”, at the UN Headquarters
in New York, US, during the annual
meeting of the UN Commission for
Social Development on 10 February
2005.

of Music Students Win Youth Chamber
Music Competition The
Dr. Sax Chamber Orchestra,
a 22-member group of selected
young Thai music students in the
Talent Education Research Project
of Mahidol University College
of Music, were 1st place winners
of the International Youth Chamber
Music Competition 2005 (IYCC 2005)
on 25-29 September 2005 in Switzerland.
This was the first time that top
honors were awarded to Asian countries.
