Since its establishment 120 years ago in 1888 as
the first medical school in Thailand, Mahidol
University has continuously strived for
educational excellence and has made major
contributions to society in terms of creating
knowledge and providing healthcare services.
Today, Mahidol University is among the best
comprehensive universities in Thailand and was
ranked as the top university for both research
and teaching by the Thai Commission on Higher
Education in 2005.
When our team assumed leadership of Mahidol
University in December 2007, we established a
vision for the University to develop into a
world class university and be one of the top 100
universities of the world within the next 4
years. To realize this vision, we are determined
to create an environment and atmosphere that
inspires learning, develops talents,
and nurtures leaders. We will also
spearhead research, and encourage
breakthrough innovations, especially those with
potential applications in industry. Strong
emphasis is also placed on international
collaboration in research and education for
modernizing and globalizing the university.
Equally important is our commitment to society
to improve healthcare services in our university
hospitals and to provide health surveillance
which responds to the needs of the Thai people.
With these responsibilities in mind, we will not
only continue to vigorously conduct teaching and
research in the fields of medicine, science,
technology, environment, social studies, liberal
arts, religious studies, music and sport
science, but we will also promote and provide
guidance on ethics and integrity. Mahidol
University is a truly distinguished university
with diverse academic disciplines and
high-caliber personnel, providing the highest
quality education. With our commitment to be

To achieve these goals, we have revised our
