On behalf of Mahidol University, I am very pleased to welcome all participants and guests to the 6th QSAPPLE Conference and Exhibition 2010. The QS-APPLE Conference has gained increased momentum over the years, drawing the attention of top international educators in the Asia-Pacific region and providing a platform for valuable academic exchanges through plenary sessions, parallel tracks, and networking opportunities. Originating from Thailand’s first hospital, established in 1888, the university was founded as the University of Medical Sciences in 1943, and was renamed with great honor by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1969, after his father H.R.H. Prince Mahidol of Songkla, who is widely regarded as the 'Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand”. Since then, Mahidol University has diversified from its strengths in medicine and science, so it now also excels in social sciences, arts and humanities. With its many awards and achievements in diverse areas such as medicine, science, environmental studies, language, and music, Mahidol University has become an internationally acclaimed institution, recognized for its academic excellence.
