Sirindhorn presided over the opening
ceremony "International Conference
on Buddhism in the Age of Consumerism" at College of Religious Studies,
Mahidol University, Salaya campus.
Mahidol University organized this international conference in celebration of H.M. the King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 81st birthday. The conference was attended by thinker, academia in the field of Buddhism, education expert, psychologist, businessman, and others, who are world-renown, to take part in a three-day conference between Dec. 1-3, 2008, The goals were to strengthen the applications of Buddhism in making life meaningful and shape the mind of the people in this consumeristic society. Subsequently, the people would be deterred away from materialism, which may be an alternative way to create genuinely healthy mind.
