Institute
for Population and Social
Research, Mahidol University
announced that Prof. Dr.
Pramote Prasartkul was
unanimously selected by
the National Research Council
of Thailand (Sociology)
to take post as the Chairman
of the National Research
Council of Thailand in
the field of Sociology.
On
August 7th, 2009, Prof.
Dr. Pramote Prasartkul,
a distinguish expert in
teaching and research with
more than 30 years of experience
in sociology, acknowledged
that this position is an
honor for himself, for
the institute, and for
Mahidol University. As
for the direction in supporting
or developing research
in sociology, Prof. Pramote
said, "We must seek to
make sociology and humanities
research more meaningful
and able to explain and
answer recent social crisis,
which could be due to the
social gap, inequality,
lack of unity, weakness
of family unit, influence
of consumerism, or changes
in the fundamental value
and attitude of the people.
We ought to seek research
in this field, suggest
solution, and make recommendations
to solve these issues."
