Ms.
Ubonwan Piakaew (N’Pang),
a 3rd year undergarduate
majoring in piano at College
of Music, Mahidol University,
competed in the 2nd International
Piano Concert in Vancouver,
Canada by People With Disabilities
on 30 Sept – 4 Oct 2009.
N’Pang competed in Course
A, and she performed a
version of her arrangement
of Canadian folk song “Vive
le Canadienne,” which earned
her the Maple Award and
300US$ cash prize.
The
2nd International Piano
Concert in Vancouver by
People with Disabilities
aimed to broaden the public’s
awareness of the musical
talents of disabled people
as well as recognize and
celebrate the vast creative
possibilities of people
with disabilities. N’Pang,
a pianist with visual impairment,
was invited by The Institute
of Piano Teachers & People
with Disabilities to represent
Thailand to compete in
this event. More than 70
contestants from 15 countries
competed in this year’s
event. The contestants
were placed into a group
of similar disabilities,
including mental retardation,
limb impairments, visual
impairments, hearing impairment
and/or communication impairment,
developmental disabilities,
and plural disabilities.
