“In
1963, we discovered intracranial
hemorrhage cases in pediatric
patients. We continued
conducting research and
follow this disease for
over 30 years until this
disease was eradicated
from Thailand. Since vitamin
K supplement was found
to protect from this disease,
in 1994, we contacted a
pharmaceutical company
in Switzerland who supported
us in supplying vitamin
K supplement. It was first
used in Siriraj Hospital
and Ramathibodi Hospital,
and it was found to be
effective in treating the
illness as well as reducing
the mortality. My inspiration
to work hard came from
H.R.H Prince Mahidol of
Songkla who guided us to
treat our patient in a
holistic approach, with
compassion and to put ourselves
in patient’s shoes. We
needed to focus on the
society and the patient’s
environment.” Emeritus
Professor Dr. Parttraporn
Isarangkura said.
