On March 1, 2010, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University, presided over the opening ceremony of “ASEAN in Today’s World 2010”, a joint program between Mahidol University and Kyushu University of Japan, organized by Mahidol University International College (MUIC), at MahaSwasdee room, Salaya Pavillion Hotel, MUIC, Salaya Campus.
MUIC and Kyushu University of Japan, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, are currently sponsoring “ASEAN in Today’s World 2010” (AsTW 2010) from February 26 to March 13. This two-week program is playing host to 52 university students from ASEAN member countries Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Burma, as well as China, Japan and South Korea. The students are attending classes in Southeast Asian Studies and languages, for academic credit from Kyushu University, and are engaging in cross-cultural exchanges and culturally enriching field trips. By the end of the program, the students will have visited Samet Island, Ayutthaya, Ampawa Floating Market and some of the more celebrated attractions in Bangkok. Participation in this program will enable the participants to broaden their knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of ASEAN and East Asia.
