A Bhutanese delegation from three schools and the Ministry of Education were welcomed by Dean Phitaya Charupoonphol, Deputy Dean for International Affairs Pornpimol Kongtip, Associate Professor Chutima Sirikulchayanonta, and Associate Professor Oranut Pacheun at Mahidol Faculty of Public Health on Monday August 16, 2010. Students on the course, Mr. Tenzin Norbu, Ms. Sonam Peldon, Mr. Dorji Tshewang, Ms. Deki Tshering, and Mr. Dechen Wangdi will attend classes for two weeks and also make visits to various schools with special programs on health promotion in Bangkok. The two week program focuses on the health of children in the schools in areas such as nutrition, hygiene, dental hygiene and addiction. The group spokesman said at the meeting that some of the schools that would benefit from the training are in very remote mountain areas of Bhutan where the people have little knowledge of many basic health promotion practices. The plan is to train children at school in hygiene, nutrition, and other areas, and that hopefully information and practices would be disseminated by the children amongst family members and others in their communities.
