On December 17, 2010,
Clinical Professor Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University, joined the opening ceremony of National Vaccine Institute, Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, and signed a contract to cooperate, in order to develop Mahidol University Dengue vaccine set 2, 2010-2014, with
Dr. Manit Teeratantikanon, M.D., Director-general of Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health.
The cooperated project for Mahidol University Dengue vaccine set 2, 2010-2014, is a project to produce vaccine for protecting Dengue virus. Mahidol University has an important role for developing pre-clinic vaccine under memorandum of agreement, in order to produce efficient Dengue vaccine according to the regulations of the country. The vaccine will be used to protect and control diseases, which is supported by policy, budget, and administration by Ministry of Public Health. Moreover, there might be more members in the future, so as to develop vaccine as planned.
The cooperation is a project developing 1-4 types of vaccine which are less virulent, and a project developing Mahidol University Dengue vaccine set 2. The latter project has four sub-projects: a project testing vaccine in human in phase 1 and phase 2, a project preparing cohort study, a project developing personnel to do research and develop Dengue vaccine, and a project studying possibility of producing vaccine in industrial level. However, the project developing 1-4 types of vaccine which are less virulent has been launched in 2010.
