On April 4, 2011, at Meeting Room 5th Floor, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya,
H.E. Mr. Tanin Kraivixian, Privy Councillor and President, Foundation of Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability and
Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, President of Mahidol University were witnesses on the occasion of signing ceremony for International academic collaboration between Mahidol University (MU), American University (AU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), to launch ASEAN Institute on Disablity and Public Policy (ASEAN IDPP)
The signatories was representatives from four academic institutes:
- Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.
- Dr. Louis Goodman, Dean of School of International Service, American University
- Dr. Astrid Tuminez, Vice Dean (Research) of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore
- Dr. Gerard Buckley, President of National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Rochester Institute of Technology, New York
This is the first international networking for academic collaboration to provide enhanced opportunities for persons with disabilities to obtain advanced academic degrees and specialized certificates at the intersection of disability and public policy. The institute brings together an international faculty of experts to prepare future leaders in disability and public policy. All courses and seminars offered by the ASEAN IDPP will be taught in English. Mahidol University and Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability Foundation (APCD) will host a two-week residency from 18-29 July 2011 for all incoming degree candidates. The IDPP will begin accepting applications from its website on 9 May 2011 with a deadline of 31 May for the 2011-2012 academic year.
