On Oct 10, 2011, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
presided over the opening ceremony of the 37th Congress on Science and Technology of Thailand (STT37) hosted by the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University in association with the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King. The venue is held between Oct 10 -12, 2011 at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World, Bangkok.
Prof. Dr. M.R. Jisnuson Svasti, President of The Science Society of Thailand,
Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University, and
Prof. Skorn Mongkolsuk, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University welcomed HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Afterward, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn delivered the opening speech and attended the Premier Keynote Lecture by Prof. Dr. Robert Huber, the 1988 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry entitled,
“Beauty and Function of Proteins, the Building Blocks of Life, as the Focus of Basic and Applied Research.” HRH Princess Sirindhorn then awarded the Outstanding Technologist Awards and Young Outstanding Technologiet Awards 2011 as well as visited the special exibition of His Majesty the King: Father of the Thai Modern Technology and Innovation.
HRH Princess Sirindhorn also visited the high school science project exhibitions afterward.
The 37th Congress on Science and Technology of Thailand is organized between Oct 10 - 12, 2011, under the theme of
“Creative Sciences for Creating the Future.” Four main activities are:
1. The special exhibition to celebrate His Majesty The King Bhumibol on the auspicious occasion of his 84th birthday. The exhibit showcases many projects initiated by His Majesty The King.
2. The seminar portion of the conference consists of keynote lectures by Nobel Laureate and distinguished scientists as well as oral presentations by many invited speakers from both local and global platform. Poster presentation consists of more than 700 titles from 16 disciplines of science and technology.
3. For the public exhibition, the exhibition shows products and advance instruments by many outstanding innovators from industry, academia, and various organizations.
4. Another activity that runs parallel to the STT37 is the 7th National Youth Scientist Camp 2011 (7th NYSC 2011), which is organized by the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, the Ministry of Education, and the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. The activities include product develop competition, innovative science project, science trivia challenge, creative drawing for science, and etc.
