On April 1, 2011, Mr. Suwit Khunkitti, the Minister of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, chaired the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop academic, research, and wildlife health centre. This MOU will also establish the National Wildlife Health Centre.
Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., President of Mahidol University along with Mr.Sunun Arunnopparat Director General of National Park , Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department , Mr.Suwit Rattanamanee Director General of Royal Forest Department and Mr.Kasemsan Chinnavaso Director General of Department of Marine and Coastal Resources co-signed the MOU at the Meeting Room 5 th Floor , Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.
This MOU will launch a collaboration in developing academic, research, and health service for wildlife as well as extend research output between the counterparts. The goals extend to include funding support for equipment, research facility, testing, as well as teaching and learning. Each party will take part in various activities such as monitoring and surveillance of wildlife disease, rehabilitation and quarantine center. They will also oversee the endangered marine species support. Both Mahidol University and the government organizations will share ownership of the research finding and output. An establishment of National Wildlife Health Center will take place at Mahidol University under the supervision of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University. Their function is to monitor and alert the wildlife poaching situation that may lead to extinction of endangered species. The center will also be responsible for caring of wildlife disease and environmental health that may affect health and safety of human.
