On July 5, 2012, Ms. Sasakorn Liawsa-nguan, a third-year student from the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, participated in a contest called “The Plus,” held by Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd. The contest consisted of three categories: Livable Cities, Access to Healthcare, and Healthy Living, aiming at the better livelihood of people in Thailand. “Alert a life,” a healthy living application made from the idea of Ms. Liawsa-ngaun, has made use of such cutting-edge technologies as smart phone, tablet, and social network to serve as reminders for their users’ health. The application, for example, serves as an eye rest reminder, doctor appointment reminder, a BMI calculator, and so on. It will give points to users who follow the healthy instructions and then share such daily success with their friends on social network sites. Among 438 creative applications competing in three categories, the application stood out and picked up the win in Healthy Living. Such award-winning applications are meant for further development and real-world use. Keep up-to-date on the event news and creative ideas via
