Two
student teams from the Faculty
of Information and Communication
Technology (FICT), Mahidol University
received the second runners-up
award and the honourable consolation
prizes from the Microsoft Imagine
Cup 2009 competition. Dr. Khunying
Kalaya Sophonpanich, Minister
of Science and Technology presided
over at the award ceremony held
at Napalai Ballroom, Dusit Thani
Hotel on 13 May, 2009. The Imagine
Cup competition represents Microsoft's
ongoing commitment to promoting
creativity and IT skills amongst
youngsters by giving them an international
platform upon which they can showcase
their talents to the world.
The global
theme of this year's Imagine Cup
competition is "Imagine a
world where technology helps solve
the problems facing us today."
All students who take part in
the Imagine Cup competition are
challenged to turn their creative
ideas into a real IT application
that can be showcased during the
contest, with the chance to potentially
turn it into a business reality.
The
'Ice Tea' team with their 'Group
Trade' application designed to
promote business trading opportunities
in underprivileged areas won the
second runners-up prize, and the
'Last Idea' team with their 'HealthMap'
application designed to provide
health information won the honorable
consolation prize. The first prize
was awarded to the 4th year undergraduate
students in the 'CSCU' team from
Chulalongkorn University with
their 'Meddy' application, which
utilizes video conference and
rule-base medical diagnostic features
to tackle the issue of limited
medical services in rural areas.
