Thai Students won the 10th Osaka International Music Competition

 

 

The 10th Osaka International Music Competition finished on October 12, 2009 Students from the College of Music, Mahidol University did very well this year. All of the 11 Thai students selected in the Bangkok regional round of the competition in July participated in the final round held in Osaka, Japan on October 7-12, 2008. Three students received various prizes as below:

Warisara Apirakdechachai, a Pre-College student major in voice performance, won the 1st prize in the voice Age-H category. She is the first Thai student who has ever won the 1st prize in Voice Category in this competition.

Vithasa Tor Saengchan, an undergraduate student, a 4th-year Thai music performance major who plays Ja-kae. Vithasa received the 2nd Prize in Folk Instruments Category of Section II

Watanya Pimparat, a Pre-College M. 5 student playing Khim, received the 3rd Prize in Folk Instruments Category of Section II. (The Folk Instruments category was a unique and very interesting part of the competition. The 1st prize went to a Japanese Shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) player)

Beside the students from College of Music, Mahidol University Mr. Gun Chaikittiwatana, Grade 6 student who plays piano from Sarasas Witaed Thonburi School, received Espoir Prize (equivalent to 4th Prize)

The Osaka International Music Competition aims to find and send out a number of young artists around the world in the spirit of the competition; that being to allow musicians to compete in an international setting. The OSAKA

International Music Competition distinguishes Osaka as an epicenter of arts and culture and endeavors to promote the peace and prosperity of the Kansai region in the 21st century. This Competition has 3 main categories;

Warisara Apirakdechachai

Section I: Piano, Voice, Strings, Winds
Section II: Early Music, Two Pianos, Piano Four Hands, Duo, Ensemble, Folk Instruments, Concerto Audition
Section III: Amateurs

It is worth to mention about the other Thai students who won in the Bangkok Regional Round: on August 15 & 16, 2009 at Mahidol University, College of Music but didnít get the awards in the 10th Osaka International Music Competition 2009 ; Nicha Pimthong (Mahidol University, College of Music, Pre-College Program, M6)

Thayarat Sopolpong, marimba (Mahidol University, College of Music, Masterís degree program
