Today at 1:30PM at Mahasawasdee Room, Salaya Pavilion Hotel, Salaya campus, Mahidol University, Assoc. Prof. Passiri Nisalak, Vice President for Administration and University Council Secretary, chaired a press conference to announce the recipients of “Outstanding Mom Award”, “A Century Mom Award”, and “Environmental Caring Mom Award”. These awards recognize and honor outstanding contribution and the vital role a mother play in the society. The awards are a part of the Mahidol University Mother’s Day 2010 event that the University organizes to celebrate the auspicious occasion of HM Queen Sirikit’s Birthday on August 12th.
Outstanding Mom Award (รางวัลแม่สู้ชีวิต ๔ ภาค) – Mahidol University establishes “Outstanding Mom Award” to recognize and honor outstanding contribution that the mother has on their children. This award has 2 categories: mother who has healthy children and mother who has children with disabilities. Each category has 4 awards according to 4 geographic location of Thailand: Central Region, Northern Region, Northeastern Region, and Southern Region. The selection of the award recipients came from mothers who fought and work so hard throughout their life to raise their children. Sixty five moms were nominated this year which makes the selection process very difficult. The awardees are:
In this special occasion, Mahidol University also organized “Environmental Caring Mom Award” and “A Century Mom Award”.
“Environmental Caring Mom Award” is to recognize mom’s contribution, not only to her children but to the environment as well, “good environment starts with mom.” This year three recipients were selected out of 38 nominations. This year three recipients were selected out of 38 nominations. They are:
- For the Central Region: The award recipient is Mrs. Nuntawun Kiewngamdee, Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon Province (นางนันทวัน เขียวงามดี ชาวอำเภอกระทุ่มเบน จังหวัดสมุทรสาคร)
- For the Northern Region – The award recipient is Mrs. Kam Longleum, Wang Nuea, Lampang Province (นางคำ หลงลืม ชาวอำเภอวังเหนือ จังหวัดลำปาง)
- For the Northeastern Region – The award recipient is Mrs. Karntaporn Chaiparkdee, Bueng Khong long, Nong Khai Province (นางกานตาพร ไชยปากดี ชาวอำเภอบึงโขงหลง จังหวัดหนองคาย)
Furthermore, “A Century Mom Award” is also announced to honor a mom who age beyond a hundred year. Her life should be recognized as a mom is like a big tree that provides shade to her child. She provides endless warmth and care. The lifelong journey of a mom is a power bestow to her child to get through the hardship. This year there are five recipients selected from seventy six nominations across the country.
- For the Bangkok Metropolitan – The award recipient is Grandma Sangiam Sriruksa, 103 years old (นางเสงี่ยม ศรีรักษา)
- For the Central Region – The award recipient is Grandma Aomg Songtana, 104 years old, Chantaburi Province (นางอ่อม ทรงธนะ)
- For the Northern Region – The award recipient is Grandma Kiew Laping, 102 years old, Lamphun Province (นางเขียว ลาพิงค์)
- For the Northeastern Region – The award recipient is Grandma Bupha Puttup, 100 years old, Mukdahan Province (นางบุผา ปัททุบ)
- For the Southern Region – The award recipient is Grandma Pin Narkniyom, 107 years old, Chumphon Province (นางพิน นากนิยม)
