“International DNA Symposium 2008 : Towards the International Quality” is held in Bangkok from November 9 to 11, 2008. The symposium is being organized by Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Budsaba Rerkamnuaychoke from Department of Pathology, Chairman of the Organizing Committee said, “This is the third international forensic DNA symposium in Southeast Asia. The goal of the symposium is to continue the tradition of keeping up with forensic DNA technology and maintain partnerships through the international contacts and a variety of academic activities. In addition, participants will have opportunities to meet and discuss topics relating to forensic DNA with the experts from many outstanding organizations, such as, Dr. Bruce Budowle, a senior scientist from Federal Bureau (FBI), USA, etc.”

“The symposium was held in Singapore (Symposium on Forensic DNA and Population Statistics Workshop) and Malaysia (International DNA Symposium 2007: Now and beyond) in 2006 and 2007, respectively. It is a continuous academic activity involving forensic DNA issues that is open to everyone interested in this field from all countries. We also encourage the university students and post graduate students to take advantage of this opportunity.” Said Dr. Budsaba.

All participants will enjoy not only the academic activity but also the social event of the full moon ceremony “Loy Krathong Festival”. Loy Krathong is one of the most popular festivals of Thailand celebrated annually on the Full-Moon Day of the Twelfth Lunar Month that takes place at a time when the weather is fine as the rainy season is over and there is a high water level all over the country. There are hundreds or thousands of flickering lights bobbing up and down on the water. Often, Loy Krathong induces firework display. Overall it is a really memorable event.
