King Bhumibol's mother, Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother, is an energetic septuagenarian who maintains an extraordinary schedule of helicopter visits to remote areas to bring necessities, medical supplies and royal encouragement to rural subjects. Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother also actively supports the Border Patrol Police, an elite body of men who form Thailand's first line of defence against infiltration or incursion. She makes periodic morale-boosting visits to their camps and provides them with food and other items not readily available in the remote border regions.
